Hokah and Brownsville Areas

Until seeing it for yourself, it is truly impossible to imagine the devastation this unexpected, powerful act of nature did to the southeastern Minnesota region. The absolutely serene Como Falls Park with its unique waterfall and striking landscaping done totally by volunteers has divided the meandering creek in half and  is  now matted down with trees and debris. (Note the before and after pictures below)

Highway 7 east of Hokah leading to Highway 26 towards Brownsville is filled with landslides as high as the bluffs.

The water rushed through the creeks and down the bluffs creating landslides on all sides of Hokah and Brownsville. Some started at the top of the bluffs and raced down wiping out everything in their paths - dirt, trees, structures ...showing no compassion.  Note the destruction of the houses in the pictures above. Railroads became rollercoasters and roads were unrecognizable. Truly a nightmare for all.
